AI Policies

Due to the every-growing AI culture, we decided to form a statement about AI and its relationship to New Union Market.

No Generative AI

What is generative AI? It's anything that is completely generated by any AI platform, either photo or video. While it can be fun to turn yourself into a superhero, we do NOT use generative AI in any of our artwork, products, social media posts, or videos. We also refuse to work with businesses who predominantly use generative AI, especially as their primary logo. This takes money and opportunities away from real artists with real skills and real passions. If we suspect AI is being used in this manner we have the right to terminate any contracts or business deals. This includes print jobs, collaborative releases, or vendor spaces.

Does New Union Market use AI?

The short answer is yes. This may seem hypocritical, but allow us to explain. What we use we classify as AI tools. They do not generate content, but rather help us generate our own content more efficiently. These may be things like AI file organizers, AI Audio Cleaner tools, etc. They do not create the art, they allow us to be more efficient, and produce art faster and better.

This is an always changing subject, and is often something that is a personal conviction to each individual. We strive for integrity in all we do. At the end of the day, all I want to do is create beautiful art to share with you, and I hope you know that what you see, however good it is, is made by me, with my vision, skills, and expertise.

Thanks,

Caleb

I've lived in Battle Creek my whole life. I always thought it had tremendous potential, and it always bothered me seeing things mismanaged, buildings torn down, and people move away. It felt like everyone gave up.

But I knew that there were a handful of people that believe in this city. I knew it couldn't just be me. So instead of giving up on Battle Creek, like so many others did, I took my passion for design and streetwear and started New Union Market. It is a way for people to show their love for Battle Creek, even if it's not perfect. It was a way to start conversations, to band together to create the city we want to live in.

7 years later and I still can't believe I'm doing this.

Let's continue to fight for our city, to dream, and to boldly fight for better.
